What We Do
One-to-one self-advocacy support:
We offer support for young people aged 11-21, in order for them to make informed decisions and choices, and communicate these choices to others (e.g. families, teachers, social workers and anyone else). We use a range of tools and techniques in order to help young people who may have communication difficulties, to make sure their thoughts and opinions are put to relevant people. If you feel this would be a beneficial service to yourself or someone you know, please contact us. We accept self-referrals, or referrals from parents/carers, schools/colleges, social workers or medical professionals.
Group self-advocacy:
As above, but we work with groups of young people with learning disabilities, to help them develop the skills and ability to self-advocate as a group.
Education and training courses:
We offer a wide variety of training and education on many different topics related to young people with learning disabilities, independent living and self-advocacy. We are continuously seeking funding to run courses on sexual health, mental health, drugs and alcohol and citizenship, and many others. Details of up and coming courses can be found on this website, and are updated regularly.
Forum and Steering group:
RCT Young People First is setting up a forum of young people who will help to directly drive and direct the new organisation, and we are also seeking young representatives on our Board of Trustees. If you are interested in being involved with our development/management group, please contact us.
